Waste Free Edmonton
To reduce single-use plastic waste in Edmonton by advocating for systemic change, promoting sustainable alternatives, and supporting the effective implementation and expansion of the City’s single-use items bylaw
Waste Free Edmonton is a grassroots, non-profit organization committed to eliminating waste at its source. One of its flagship initiatives is the campaign for a Single-Use Plastics Bylaw, which began in 2018 and culminated in a landmark bylaw enacted in July 2023. This project involved engaging with citizens, local businesses, and policymakers to promote meaningful regulations addressing bags, straws, cups, utensils, and take-out containers. Waste Free Edmonton continues to support the implementation of this bylaw while advocating for further waste reduction strategies. Through education, policy advocacy, and community engagement, the organization aims to position Edmonton as a global leader in sustainable waste management.
