Project Summary

Gardeners plant an extra row of vegetables. At harvest they clean, but don’t wash, the vegetables, and bring them to the Food Bank warehouse at 11508 120 Street. Root crops are best, but anything that can be easily handled and stored is good. Also, tree fruits providing larger eating apples are welcomed.

Edmonton Gleaners Association, better known as Edmonton’s Food Bank was incorporated on January 16, 1981 as Canada’s First Food Bank. The Plant, Grow, Share a Row program officially started in Winnipeg in 1986. Edmonton’s Food Bank started promoting it as a donation option in 1998.  The Program was supported nationally by the Canadian Association of Food Banks (now Food Banks Canada) and the Composting Council of Canada (https://www.compost.org/plant_grow_share_a_row/).
