The Edmonton BEC (EBEC) initiative was created when BEC Canada (BECC) was formed in mid-2021. For the rest of that year, an EBEC volunteer contributed to building the BECC board and strategizing the framework for the operation of EBEC. In 2022, volunteers began to create a Database of Sustainability Projects (Edmonton Database). In 2023, EBEC may be participating in national BEC projects as well. There are other Canadian BEC initiatives in Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, and Vancouver.
